Local artist performances to pop up throughout the city
CINCINNATI (May 1, 2019) – Move over, Nashville: Cincinnati will transform into Music City this summer with a series of pop-up performances that will fill the streets with music.
The Street Stage Project is a pilot program featuring 30+ pop-up performances a week with local musicians across the city. Launching on Friday, May 3, the performances will happen every day throughout the next five months, concluding on Sunday, Sept. 29.
The project is a partnership between the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) and the Cincinnati Music Accelerator (CMA). The series is powered by ArtsWave, the nonprofit planner, promoter and funder of Greater Cincinnati’s arts through the help of tens of thousands of residents and corporations giving to the nation’s largest community campaign for the arts.
“ArtsWave is excited about this collaboration – another example of how the arts enliven our neighborhoods, bringing us all together and creating vibrancy” said Alecia Kintner, President & CEO of ArtsWave.
Performance locations may change throughout the program, but will start at these initial spots:
- Central Business District: Piatt Park; Walnut & 7th; Court & Main
- Over-the-Rhine: 12th and Vine; 13th & Jackson; Imagination Alley; 13th & Republic
Time slots at each location will vary between lunch time (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and early evening (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.).
The Cincinnati Music Accelerator will manage and facilitate talent for the project. The current musicians that will kick off the series are alumni that have graduated from the accelerator program. CMA will also accept new submissions from local musicians throughout the project.
“The steady employment of artists helps communities prosper and create a diversified 21st-century economy: the arts provide jobs, attract visitors, create innovative products and shape community liveliness,” Kick Lee, founder of CMA, said. “CMA’s goal is to teach entrepreneurship to music creatives while simultaneously working to end starving artists. We do this by teaching them how to monetize their talent and learn all aspects of the business at a level that’s catered around their craft. Projects like The Street Stage Project provide exposure and an opportunity for artists to demonstrate their skills to a broader audience that they normally might not be able to reach.”
