Coffia Celebrates Grand Opening in 3CDC Development

CINCINNATI (July 27, 2023) –Located just across the street from Homemakers Bar at 32 E. 13th Street, an 895 square foot space in 3CDC’s Columbia Flats project is now home to Coffia – an authentic Colombian coffee shop owned by Colombia native Christian Gonzalez.

Conveniently situated near a number of offices and residential units, and around the corner from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Gonzalez hopes the coffee shop will serve as a place for people to take a break, relax and hang out.

“I was drawn to Over-the-Rhine for its variety of art and culture,” Gonzalez said. “I want Coffia to be a place where people from all different backgrounds can mingle and learn about each other.”

Originally from Colombia, Gonzalez moved to the United States six years ago, starting out in New York. It was then that he met his wife, Edna. Eventually, they relocated to Cincinnati, and Gonzalez felt driven to bring a piece of ‘home’ to the city – very fresh coffee straight from Colombia.

“Coffee is not just beans,” Gonzalez said. “It’s an entire process and I want to represent that. Coffia is about love for art, love for coffee and love for people. It’s about sharing our culture.”

In addition to coffee, Coffia will offer a variety of sweet and savory baked goods, croissants and other pastries. Beer and specialty cocktails will also be available, some of which will incorporate coffee. Throughout the year, the shop will be decorated with the works of various artists available for purchase, as well.

Coffia’s unique interior was designed to resemble the jungle, with help from Alejandro Munera, an artist based in New York. It features vibrant neon colors and is adorned with plants, coffee-themed artwork, and other details that represent Colombian culture.

“3CDC is intentional about cultivating more diversity among business owners in the neighborhood, placing an emphasis on increasing the number of minority-owned businesses in OTR storefronts,” said Lindzie Gunnels, Commercial Leasing Manager with 3CDC. “Christian has a lot to offer the community and Coffia is a welcome addition, serving as a melting pot where folks with different cultural roots can come together over a fantastic cup of coffee, or a delicious pastry or baked good.”

Coffia will hold its soft opening Saturday at 8 am, with a grand opening planned for Thursday, August 3. In celebration of its grand opening, patrons will enjoy a live DJ, free drinks and light bites.

Regular hours for Coffia will be:

Sunday: 8 am – 8 pm

Monday – Wednesday: 6:30 am – 8 pm

Thurs – Saturday: 6:30 am – 9 pm
