Today, renovation work started at the Duke Energy Convention Center (DECC), kicking off the projected 18-month construction period. The initial work on the convention center’s interior includes cataloging and relocating existing event equipment, as well as removing public artwork throughout the building. Once the building is emptied, construction crews will start interior demolition work in short order. Exterior demolition is starting at the mid-block of Fifth Street and progressing east toward Elm Street. The construction team will build temporary walls to weatherize the building while the new glass façade is fabricated and installed.

On Tuesday, July 16, the City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, 3CDC, and our project partners will commemorate the start of the renovation work at a public construction kickoff ceremony at the corner of Fifth and Elm streets, outside of DECC’s main lobby entrance. The event will feature brief remarks from several project partners. Learn more about the event and RSVP online.

Later today, 3CDC will send out a new installment of its regular Convention District construction updates. Stay in the know with everything happening in the Convention District by subscribing to receive bi-weekly construction updates.
