SPCA Prepares for Grand Opening of OTR Adoption Center

Public Invited to Celebratory Open House Event Tomorrow

CINCINNATI (September 16, 2026) – The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Cincinnati, a privately funded nonprofit dedicated to animal welfare and rescue, will celebrate the grand opening of its new Over-the-Rhine (OTR) adoption center at 1312 Main Street tomorrow. Serving more than 35,000 animals annually across Greater Cincinnati through adoption services, veterinary care, humane education, foster programs, and community outreach, SPCA Cincinnati is expanding its impact with the addition of the new 1,795-square-foot storefront. The space, leased from Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC), will help the organization connect with even more animals and families throughout the region.

Following a private ribbon-cutting ceremony, the adoption center will open to the public tomorrow from 12 to 6 p.m. for a community open house. Attendees can tour the facility and enjoy light refreshments while learning more about SPCA Cincinnati’s mission and programs.

“This is the beginning of a new era for SPCA Cincinnati,” said Chris Seelbach, President & CEO of SPCA Cincinnati. “There’s so much happening here right now, and I want people to feel that excitement and be part of what comes next. We’re growing, investing in our future and thinking differently about how we can serve animals and people. We have a real opportunity to help define what animal welfare looks like next, right here in Cincinnati.”

The new adoption center will house up to six dogs at a time, along with dedicated areas for multiple cats, creating a welcoming environment where prospective adopters can meet animals, ask questions, and explore adoption opportunities without an appointment. Seelbach and his team carefully selected the location for its prime visibility and accessibility. Situated just around the corner from Ziegler Park, the storefront benefits from significant foot traffic and daily exposure, making it an ideal setting to connect more animals with potential adopters and expand SPCA Cincinnati’s reach within the community.

“We are proud to support SPCA Cincinnati as they celebrate this important expansion,” said Christy Samad, EVP of Civic and Commercial Space Activation for 3CDC. “As we continue to invest in the long-term vitality of Over-the-Rhine, we look for opportunities to introduce amenities that meet community needs and strengthen the neighborhood. SPCA Cincinnati’s new adoption center fills an unmet niche in the district and adds a valuable amenity that will serve residents, attract visitors, and enrich the overall neighborhood experience.”

Following the grand opening, the adoption center will be open daily from 12 – 6 p.m. They stop showing dogs at 5:30 p.m. To learn more about SPCA Cincinnati, please visit the SPCA website and follow @SPCACincinnati on Facebook and Instagram.
