Leveling Up: Cinsei Evolves from Pop Up to Permanent Space
Popular Manga & Matcha Café to Celebrate Grand Opening in OTR
CINCINNATI (April 2, 2026) – After debuting in summer 2025 in a 300‑square‑foot converted garage within Yard & Co.’s headquarters, Cinsei is officially leveling up — the Black-owned manga & matcha café has signed a lease for a permanent space at 32 E. 13th Street in OTR. The 895-square-foot space is located in Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC)’s Columbia Flats project.
The concept — dreamed up by husband‑and‑wife duo and manga enthusiasts Kendall and Jaleesa Ross — was quickly embraced by the community. With no other matcha‑forward business in Cincinnati at the time, Cinsei’s unique approach resonated immediately. Demand grew so fast that the couple soon outgrew their pop‑up space and began exploring a permanent location.
“Getting our start as a pop‑up at Yard & Co. was essential in introducing Cinsei to the neighborhood, and we’ll always be grateful for that opportunity,” Cinsei co-owner Jaleesa Ross said. “When we began searching for a permanent home, we wanted a place where people could relax, hang out, and read manga — a true third space. Our goal was to create something that feels like your best friend’s basement: comfortable, fun, and a spot you can’t wait to come back to.”
The new location will feel very much like the former space, with a similar vibe, similar beverage offerings and – of course – manga. Cinsei will serve a latte blend of matcha in a variety of flavors, in addition to roasted green tea. Pastries, cupcakes, muffins, tarts, and matcha cookies will also be available for purchase, as well as non-food items like Japanese stationery, vinyl albums, and other Cinsei merch. With seating both inside and outside the café, there will be plenty of space to get a book, grab a drink, and relax.
“We’re incredibly inspired by the Rosses and the bold step they took to turn their idea into reality,” said Chrisy Samad, EVP of Civic & Commercial Space Activation for 3CDC. “They’ve made a remarkable impact in just a few months, and we can’t wait to see how they continue to grow in their new permanent home. Cinsei adds something truly unique to OTR — and it’s another great example of the success of Black‑ and women‑owned businesses in Cincinnati.”
The Rosses will celebrate the grand opening of their new location on Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and everyone is invited to attend. As an added bonus, the pair will be releasing a new drink for everyone to try. Following the grand opening, Cinsei will be open on the following days:
- Wednesday through Friday: 10 AM to 4 PM
- Saturday: 10 AM to 6 PM
- Sunday: 12 PM to 4 PM
Additionally, Cinsei will be collaborating with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at an upcoming performance – The Music of Studio Ghibli – on April 14 at Music Hall. Attendees can enjoy free matcha at the event.
