Cincy Native to Bring Commission-Based Hair Salon to OTR This Summer
Pippi’s Set to Open in Newly-Leased 3CDC Space
CINCINNATI (March 18, 2026) – Cincinnati-based color specialist Madeline Heile recently signed a lease to open Pippi’s, a boutique hair salon coming soon to Over-the-Rhine (OTR). The salon will occupy 2,710 square feet at 1502 Vine Street, a property Heile is leasing from Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC). Inspired by Pippi Longstocking — the beloved character celebrated for her independence, bravery, strength, and unapologetic individuality — Pippi’s aims to bring a fresh, distinctive energy to the salon experience, setting itself apart as a creative haven unlike any other.
After studying advertising and design, Heile ultimately decided to follow her true passion and enroll in hair school — a choice she’s never regretted. She explored bridal and styling work early in her career, but everything shifted when she met her mentor, Joseph DiMaggio, an internationally respected Master Session Hairstylist, creative director, and systems-based educator. With more than 18 years of global experience leading backstage teams at New York, Paris, Milan, and London Fashion Weeks, DiMaggio helped Heile sharpen her artistry and discover her calling in advanced color work.
Heile most recently worked at a salon in Cincinnati’s Northside neighborhood, but realized she wanted to create a space of her own — one that reflects her vision for an experience that goes beyond traditional customer service and truly embodies hospitality. Pippi’s will align with Heile’s values of craft, intention, and community.
“I began searching for a space in OTR, and after touring several options, the Vine Street storefront stood out,” Heile said. “It offered the room I needed to create the best possible salon experience. For me, that experience extends far beyond the chair — it’s about taking care of my clients and my team, while also having the space to host trainings, pop-ups, and more.”
Heile collaborated with local design firm Indio to bring the vision for her salon to life. A top priority was creating a highly efficient layout — one that enhances the client experience while supporting seamless workflow behind the chair. Once the buildout is complete, the space will feature a clean, contemporary aesthetic that reflects her modern approach to the craft.
“The 3CDC team remains steadfast in our commitment to supporting and elevating women-owned businesses in OTR,” said Christy Samad, EVP of Civic & Commercial Space Activations for 3CDC. “Pippi’s is a natural addition to the Vine Street corridor and complements the existing mix of retailers, restaurants, and service providers across these walkable blocks. We’re thrilled to welcome a talented new entrepreneur to the neighborhood — one who will add to its vibrancy and continued momentum.”
Pippi’s will open its doors this summer offering color, extension, cutting, and waxing services. Heile also plans to offer a structured mentorship program for budding artists looking to join the industry. She is currently looking for new team members and interested individuals are encouraged to fill out an application at https://www.pippissalon.com/.
