SIGN UP FOR SPRING EVENTS ON FOUNTAIN SQUARE
CINCIDITAROD TEAM REGISTRATION AND MARKET APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN
CINCINNATI (January 10, 2014) – Registration for one of Cincinnati’s craziest events is now open! Produced by 3CDC, Cinciditarod is a wacky shopping cart competition that begins and ends on Fountain Square. Coined after the real Alaskan Iditarod, which involves a grueling 1,100 mile dog sled race, the Cincinnati version is a little less intensive and a lot more inventive.
So what exactly is Cinciditarod? Teams must make their way through a five mile course that spans across downtown Cincinnati—all while remaining physically attached to decorated shopping carts. Participants must also collect items provided on their grocery lists, as well as compete in a series of challenges located at five pre-selected checkpoints. Trust us when we say it’s not as easy as it sounds.
Teams must consist of no more than five people—all of whom must be at least 21 years of age—in order to participate. The cost to register is $100 per team and all registration forms must be completed and returned by Friday, February 21 at 5:00 p.m.
The official competition is set for Saturday, March 1. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. and the race begins at noon. All of the grocery items from the event will be donated to the Freestore Foodbank. Visit www.MyFountainSquare.com for additional information regarding race guidelines, registration forms and waivers.
Shopping cart races not quite your thing? Consider applying to be a vendor for the 2014 Strauss Troy Market on the Square instead! The Fountain Square market runs on Tuesdays between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. from April 29 through October 28. Three types of vendors will be considered: (1) vendors selling non-food or prepackaged items such as flowers, drinks, or candy, (2) vendors selling basic food items such as breads, meats, cheeses, or produce, and (3) vendors selling ready-to-eat food items such as snacks and sandwiches.
For application purposes, Strauss Troy Market on the Square is divided into three sessions (April 29-May 20, June 3-August 25, and September 9-October 28). Vendors may apply for one, two, or all three sessions. Fountain Square is also considering the addition of a Thursday market option, open to vendors participating in session two; a final decision will be made depending on vendor interest.
Details regarding market guidelines and selection criteria, as well as an online application, can be found at www.MyFountainSquare.com. All vendor submissions must be received by Friday, March 28 at 5:00 p.m. EST in order to be eligible for consideration.
